July, 18th 2010 - Prospective Bidders Advance to the U$ 35.5 m Dredging Contract Award.

The dredging companies Dragabras, Bandeirantes, Van Oord, Camargo Corrêa, Jan De Nul, Triunfo and consortium DTA/EIT participated in the first round of the  dredging bid process officially opened by SEP ( Special Secretariat of Ports) last March 21 st . The companies Dragabras Serviços de Dragagem Ltda, Jan de Nul do Brasil Dragagem Ltda and Van Oord Serviços de Operações Marítimas Ltda have emerged as post-qualified bidders that will be competing to carry out the project that calls for dredging Itajaí Port Complex approach channel and turning circle from 11 to 14 meters. The names of the three prospective winners were published in the Official Gazette of the Federal Executive by SEP, last July 14 th . The competing bidders will now prepare, in the shortest possible time, for the second round of tendering (price tender) that will qualify the winner to carry out the proposed dredging operations to be started no later than November 2010. The U$35.5 million dredging project will allow entry of much larger vessels (new generation of large vessels) into the complex which will greatly lower costs and optimize sea freight operations. As an added bonus, the deepening of the channel will substantially minimize the harsh effects of flooding all along the waterway system, as it will allow for a better water outflow.

July, 23rd 2010- Petrobrás to Open Oil Exploration and Production Unit in Itajai.

Petrobrás, the Brazilian state Controlled energy giant, has announced the opening of an oil exploration unit in Itajai. The company's setting of UO SUL (Oil Exploration and Production Unit) in the city will greatly impact the region's economy by generating employment and income in addition to attracting a great number of investors. According to information from the State Government Petrobrás decision to build the unit in Itajaí is explained by the need to expand the activities of its Santos oil exploration and production operations basin (UO-BS) in order to better distribute management responsibility over an area that stretches all the way from Cabo Frio in Rio de Janeiro to Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. According to Petrobrás, the new unit will respond for producing areas that are currently undergoing long range testing phase, producing an average of 17.000 barrels of light crude oil per day, as well as other prospective deepwater offshore exploration fields which are estimated to produce an average of nearly 80.000 barrels daily by 2012.
