January 11th, 2010 – Teporti Speeds Up Operations with New Mobile Harbor Crane.
|
Most recently acquired by Teporti (Itajaí Terminal Co.), a new mobile harbor crane model MHC 200 (manufactured by Reggiane in Italy) is currently in operation. With maximum mobility, compact design, 100 tons of lifting capacity (mounted on rubber-tired chassis) Reggiane MHC 200 is able to handle up to 30 containers per hour. Teporti's CEO Júlio D'Ávila said the company has invested heavily in infrastructure and equipment technology and that the MHC 200 will greatly speed up handling operations, besides adding to service quality. “The MCH 200 is only the first of a series of high-tech container handling equipment Teporti will be purchasing this year”, Mr. D'Ávila added.
Teporti is located on the right bank of Rio Itajaí-Açú River, has a 49 thousand square-meter cargo-handling area, storage capacity for 2,5 thousand containers, a parking area for 300 trucks, a 150 meter wharf ( to be extended to 300 meters) and is fully equipped to handle all import and export operations of vessels with a draught up to 6,4 meters. The container terminal has been carrying out a large expansion project that involves not only infrastructure and equipment upgrading but also dredging works to deepen the terminal draft to 9, 5 meters. |

January 29th, 2010 - 2009, A Year Marked by Recovery.
|
| |
With a total of 593,270 TEUS of containers handled, Itajaí Port Complex ranked fourth amongst the top 10 Brazilian container ports between January and December of 2009. “Although we've fallen from second to the fourth-place ranking in number of containers handled, we still ranked very closely to our main competitors Rio Grande and Paranagua which handled 630,030 and 627,088 TEUS respectfully, over the same period. Nevertheless, already in the second quarter of 2009, the number of containers handled by the Port of Itajaí reached 290,042 against 285,029 and 277,030 TEUS handled by The Port of Rio Grande and Paranagua respectfully. Also, the Complex saw a remarkable increase in traffic flow over the period, mostly as a result of the gradual return of vessels, whose carriers had temporarily suspended their services to the Complex after the 2008 floods”, informed Robert Grantham, the Port of Itajaí Commercial Director. In 2009, the overall number of containers handled by the Complex showed a 14% backslide, yet 1% less than the 15% retraction previously forecast by the Special Secretariat of Ports for the average number of containers handled by each major Brazilian port. Imports through Itajaí Port Complex accounted for 2,57% of the total Brazilian import volume while exports represented 1,72%. While overall Brazilian export sales showed a 23,08% fall, Itajaí exports registered a 1,44% downturn. Total Brazilian exports showed a 26,22% retraction and Itajaí registered only a 3,02% backslide in 2009. The City of Itajaí imports and exports together account for 2, 11% of the country's total trade volume. |
