| MOVEMENT OF GOODS |

Being traditionally a port for cargoes in general, the Port of Itajai, has been showing a remarkable growth in the last years. Having the loaded/unloaded at the commercial docks, 732 tons in 1990, it exceeded for the first time 1 million tons. The collected data in 2001, presented a movement of 2,972.094 tons.
Itajai is characterised by being an essentially exporting port, where approximately 19% of the movement correspond to importation. This fact reflects very well the economical characteristic of the State of Santa Catarina, with an agri ndustrial production that has great acceptance in the international consuming markets. The hinterland of the Port of Itajai is represented practically by all the State of Santa Catarina; added by some productive regions of Parana, Mato Gross do Sul, Goias, Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. The largest countries which are consumers of the products exported by the Port of Itajai are located in Europe, North America, Middle East and the Far East, pointing out that the product from Santa Catarina is usually destined to immediate consumption (absence of exportation of raw materials).
